Travel Tips with Hair Extensions

Planning a trip?

Your hair extensions can come along for the adventure!

At BCY Artistry, we’ve got the best tips to keep your extensions looking fabulous while you travel.

Pack Essentials: Bring your professional grade, extension-friendly shampoo, conditioner, and a detangling brush.

Protective Styles While Sleeping: Depending on the method of extensions you’re wearing, softly braid your hair for individual strand methods or tape in extensions, and for methods like hidden bead wefts, wear your hair in a soft high bun. A satin bonnet may also help reduce friction while sleeping if you would prefer this as opposed to a bun or braid.

Protective Styles While Adventuring: If you will be in the water (pool, ocean, lake, etc), it is recommended to apply a leave-in conditioner to the mid & ends of your extensions to prevent excess water from absorbing into your extensions. For strand by strand and tape in extensions, one or two braids is recommended while in water activities to prevent hair from tangling in the water. For weft extensions, a braid or a high top bun is recommended to prevent tangling in the water. If you will be in high winds (jet ski, boat, motorcycle, etc), please take the same precaution and secure the lengths of your hair to prevent matting or tangling that can be caused by the wind.

Protect & Nourish: Remember to pack these important products; Leave-in conditioner, UV protectant, & Heat Protectant. Keep your hair nourished with a leave-in conditioner or hair oil (only applied to mid & ends!) especially if you’re traveling to a dry climate. A UV protectant sprayed on your natural hair and extensions is recommended especially if you will be in areas of full sun for extended periods of time. Always apply a thermal protectant product to dry hair if you plan to apply heat with hot tools.

Brush Often: Brush your hair gently from the ends working your way up to the top after activities. For individual strand methods, please brush your scalp and bonds at last once daily to prevent bonds from tangling.

Silk / Satin Pillowcase: Bring a silk pillowcase for hotel stays to reduce friction and prevent tangles.
